As 2024 draws to a close, we reflect on what has been a rewarding year for the Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory at Shibaura Institute of Technology (GEL-SIT), made possible by the unwavering support of so many individuals. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed to our successes.
This year has been particularly remarkable due to the growth and accomplishments of our GEL-SIT members, especially our students. Their dedication and hard work yielded significant progress in research on geotechnical disaster risk prediction using AI technology and the development of environmentally friendly soil improvement techniques. In addition to receiving the “Best Paper Award” at GEOMATE 2024, an international conference, and multiple “Outstanding Paper Presentation Awards” at domestic conferences, our master’s students successfully submitted and published articles in English journals. These achievements not only demonstrate the students’ passion and curiosity but also greatly invigorated the entire GEL-SIT.
The energy and driving force behind the GEL-SIT are undoubtedly our students. Their collaborative spirit, which transcends hierarchical boundaries, their strong sense of camaraderie, and their pride in tackling research challenges have created a warm and positive atmosphere within the GEL-SIT. This supportive environment has led to numerous accomplishments and moments of joy. As faculty, we have focused on fostering an environment where students can build confidence and take pride in their work, enabling them to spread their wings and embrace the future. We are deeply grateful for their enthusiasm and the results they have achieved.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will continue to treasure this driving force and take on new challenges to deepen our research and translate it into societal contributions. The entire GEL-SIT remains committed to advancing a safe and sustainable society through the power of geotechnical engineering.
